Indonesia has 18 national public holidays and 8 collective leave days (cuti bersama) in 2027, set by a joint decree of the Ministers of Religious Affairs, Manpower and State Apparatus Reform (SKB No. 1205, 3 and 2 of 2026) signed on 15 September 2026. Eleven of the holidays and all eight cuti bersama days fall on weekdays, so a team that observes every date loses up to 19 working days. The biggest disruption is Eid al-Fitr: with Nyepi and four cuti bersama days, Saturday 6 March to Monday 15 March 2027 is ten consecutive days off.

Isra Mi’raj appears twice because it follows the Islamic lunar calendar, which runs about 11 days shorter than the Gregorian year: 27 Rajab 1448 H falls on 5 January 2027 and 27 Rajab 1449 H on 26 December 2027.

Long weekends and blocked weeks in 2027
- 1 to 3 January: New Year falls on a Friday.
- 5 to 7 February: a cuti bersama Friday before Lunar New Year on Saturday.
- 6 to 15 March: Nyepi, Eid al-Fitr and four cuti bersama days. Plan this as a lost week, not a long weekend.
- 25 to 28 March: cuti bersama Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday.
- 15 to 20 May: Eid al-Adha on Monday, two cuti bersama days, and Vesak on Thursday. Many staff will also take Friday 21 May.
- 24 to 26 December: cuti bersama Friday, Christmas on Saturday and Isra Mi’raj on Sunday.
Seven holidays fall on a Saturday or Sunday in 2027: Lunar New Year, Easter, Labour Day, Islamic New Year, the Prophet’s Birthday, Christmas and the second Isra Mi’raj.
Is cuti bersama mandatory for private companies?
No. The decree itself leaves private employers to set their own arrangements, and Ministry of Manpower Circular M/6/HK.04/XII/2024 makes cuti bersama optional: it applies only as agreed between employer and employees in the employment contract, company regulation or collective agreement. Two rules follow from the circular:
- An employee who takes a cuti bersama day has it deducted from their annual leave.
- An employee who works on a cuti bersama day keeps that day of annual leave and is paid their normal wage. It is not overtime.
What do employers pay if staff work on a public holiday?
Work on a national public holiday is overtime under Government Regulation 35 of 2021 (Article 31). For a five-day, 40-hour week, the rate is 2x the hourly wage for each of the first 8 hours, 3x for the 9th hour, and 4x for the 10th to 12th hours. The hourly wage is 1/173 of the monthly wage (base pay plus fixed allowances). A six-day week uses a slightly different scale: 2x for the first 7 hours, 3x for the 8th, 4x for the 9th to 11th.
When is THR due in 2027?
Religious holiday allowance (THR) must be paid at least seven days before the employee’s religious holiday under Ministry of Manpower Regulation 6 of 2016. For Muslim employees, with Eid al-Fitr on 10 March 2027, the deadline is 3 March 2027. The regulation ties THR to each employee’s own religion: Eid al-Fitr for Muslim employees, Christmas for Christian employees, Nyepi for Hindu employees, Vesak for Buddhist employees and Lunar New Year for Confucian employees. Employees with 12 months of service receive one month’s wages; those with at least one month receive a prorated amount.
Planning a 2027 calendar for a team in Indonesia
- Treat 6 to 15 March as a closed week. Move releases, audits and on-call rotations away from it, and agree coverage with the team early. Our guide to SLAs across time zones covers how to staff these windows.
- Budget THR for February payroll. The 3 March deadline means Eid al-Fitr THR usually goes out with, or just after, February salaries.
- Write your cuti bersama policy into the contract. Decide which of the eight days the company observes and say so in the employment agreement or company regulation, so annual leave balances are not disputed later.
- Check overtime approvals for holiday work. Support and infrastructure staff who work on 10 or 11 March are paid at holiday overtime rates, which should be in the budget before the week arrives.
